The real deal when it comes to hardware stores. This is a place where knowledgeable folks understand what your trying to do and then they help you accomplish it. Tools and materials cost what they should, but guidance is freely given. The big box stores can't compete at that level of expertise.

I was trying to replace a 50 year old water stem. Unfortunately, they did not have an exact replacement.
